October projects

October is always FULL for me. My children were born in October/November, I met my husband in October. I love Fall and the fact that it is a month to remember the dead. I love Halloween and anything spooky. The other day, Brandi posted a photo of the Vampire Tarot, saying it was perfect for the season. My sister gave me this tarot. I don't use it for divination because I find it difficult to shuffle. That said, the aesthetic of this deck is so pleasing to me. Plus it is based on Dracula by Bram Stoker.

So Brandi and I started talking and we decided to turn this into a daily pull project for October! We'll each pull a card a day and document it. I'll be using one of my handmade notebooks and hopefully making a dent in my humongous Halloween ephemera. I'm really looking forward to this project.

For the last three years, I've been participating in Inktober (see my past projects here). This year, I'm doing it with a twist: I'm going to be drawing faces on one sheet of handmade watercolor paper. So at the end, I will have a cast of 31 portraits on this sheet. I am super inspired by the work of Tina Berning and Marlene Dumas for this.

Who else is cooking up a few projects in October? Let me know what your take on Inktober will be in the comments!

Color Blast || The Purple-icious journal

Hey hey! Today I am sharing the pages I made in Lauren's very cool Purple journal. I got mixed up in the order of sharing our pages so you get a double dose of purple today.

I have to say right off the bat that I love saying the word 'purple' and in French 'pourpre' with all those rolled r's. I like the degrees of lilac that you get in a sunset.

There is a link between purple and texture for me, soft velvet petals, deep furry darkness.

We all thought of Purple Rain but before that there was Purple Haze!

I added a few elements to the pages below.

A couple of favourites: a peek-a-boo...

...and a washi tape page.

There are many hues of purple. I prefer the blue toned ones. But in general, it isn't a colour that I use a lot. I loved being out of my comfort zone here.

I love using cast-offs and photo remnants in these journals.

Here is my favourite page: Chang'e and her hare next to the moon (made by Riet?)

Please take a look at everyone's pages : Julia, Riet, Lauren, Moriah, Lauren and Sarah.

And so we come to the last week of the Season of Fairytales. Like many of you, I will have a hard time letting go of this magical Season. Although I have filled my journal so the project does feel complete to me, at least in regards to The Lady of the Moors.

Like the lady, it sometimes takes us a while to see our path, the one that is ours, not the one this other person is following and that looks good to us, not the very trodden path that everyone is taking; our path.

Once we've found it, we let fear abate, we let anxiety fade, we embrace change. And we carry on down that path.

It's easy to lose sight of who we are in this social media driven world. It's easy to want everything else, to want to be a part of every group, to try every single thing, to want to have the same style as this or that person, to be fit, to be happy in our relationships, to eat well, to be there for our kids, for ourselves, for our better halves, for our animals, for our co-workers, for our friends, for people we don't even like that all becomes exhausting.

But, once you really start listening to you, to that voice inside of you, those fears fall away. It is so healing to quiet the noise. To retreat and enjoy what truly nourishes us.

Loved Ashley's fun pop up techniques!

Again with the flaps. I really like them :)

Perfect to hide a pretty pop up witch!

And so we come to the last page and the conclusion to my tale:

So, did you guess that I was telling my own story? The story of my summer of unplugging and making space for myself. The Summer of Realigning with What I Need. I will be forever grateful to the Moors for the serenity they have given me.

And I am forever grateful to you who come here and read my words and look at what I have to say. I appreciate you very much. The end.
