GET MESSY SEASON OF CONNECTIONS || 04

I am back to the blog, after a hiatus. I will go back and publish week 03 here after this post. I definitely had a Julia-inspired week. Bith my pages were made following her prompt and her tutorial on the private blog.

For the heart prompt, I assembled images of things that hold my heart. A melting-pot of ancestors (real and imagined), roses, unicorns, skulls, butterflies and rabbits.

I hand-stitched the heart in the middle of the page to encompass all of it.

The second spread I made following Julia's tutorial on assemblages. I used my machine for this one.

The theme I was exploring was childhood. So I pulled out images and fabric that had the primary colors in them, yellow, red, blue.

Books were my lifeline as a child so I had to have a lot of references to them in my page.

I decided to follow Jules's advice and try a different type of gluing method, so I machine stitched the papers in place.

Two more spreads in my Fire Burning Bright journal: I had so much fun connecting with everyone on where to take this spread. I really love the result, but even more so the discussions we all had.

And another collage/assemblage. This was a quick one, it has an urgency to it because I wanted to express this idea quick, quick.

The Cityscape Zine

Welcome to the Cityscape Zine! The Zine Squad recruited Kelli to make a zine for Jessica. I had lots of fun using some photo strips from various travels for this one. Whenever I print out my Pocket Scrapbooking pages, I save the photo strips and they work great in this kind of project. The photo strip below is Tianjin.

I added a flap here because, well, I like flaps! I also have lots of cityscape washi tape.

Here you see (top to bottom) Seoul, Seoul, Beijing and the bottom washi is Hong Kong. Much as I need to find myself in nature and recharge, I love the big city life. I feel like living in a big cit gives me anonymity and freedom. Sometimes, that can be difficult and lonely, but in general I prefer that to knowing everyone at the corner store.

The Brooklyn Bridge collage was froma set of notecards I bough in NYC in 2008! Everything finds a home eventually.

Same with the Chrysler Building.

I added a few bits to the right page below.

Make sure to check out all our pages here: Katie, Julia, Kelli and Jessica.

Get messy Season of Connections || 03

This was during my internet accessibility problems so I wrote everything out on my Instagram. I still wanted the photos here though. Connections to my work.

And connections to my selves:

V's Daily Diary September

I'm back into the land of connectivity! Yay! Lots happening here: new kitten, visitors, some very negative vibes. Be warned there is some profanity here, but sometimes that's what you need.

Here are my pages for September:

GET MESSY SEASON OF CONNECTIONS || 02

Hello all and welcome to week two of the Season of Connections. This week kicked my butt so I didn't have as much time in my art journal as I thought. I did manage one spread in my Connections journal:

I went with a quick rendition of a continuous line self-portrait and some writing.

"Tempus fugit" means "time flies" and "Memento mori" means "remember that you are mortal". I put these in my art journal as a reminder that things are constantly changing.

Good or bad, they never stay the same.

The roses are there to remind me to "smell the roses" and take the time to look up and see what is happening.

I also managed a mixed media self portrait in what is turning out to be my Fire Burning Bright journal. This is still a work in progress, but I have an idea of where it's going.

Stickers are by Elly and the Mucha is from an old notebook cover. Khaleesi approves!
